Respect Programme

Portsmouth Football Club’s Respect Programme delivers a sport/arts based programme to young people within the South East part of the city (SE Community Improvement Partnership boundaries). The programme is open to all young people but works in partnership with local schools, the education welfare service, pupil referral units, Community Safety Teams and young people self-excluding or those not in education, employment or training ( NEET) to offer weekly activity sessions leading to structured pastoral sessions. Training, accreditation, volunteering, employment and health information workshops supplement the activity based sessions, with those achieving accreditation going onto either voluntary work in the community or, in some cases, into paid youth work within the community.

The programme, which includes 36 different activities each week, aids the social and personal development of all young people aged 5 to 25 years, focusing primarily on the 10-19 year old age group. This is achieved by building positive relationships and encouraging their social and personal development thereby promoting a sense of loyalty, of belonging to something special, and a sense of community and self-esteem. The programme has been running since January 2007 and works with 500+ different young people per week with an equal gender split. Since the Programme has been running a 26% reduction in youth crime has been recorded.
